Chat with Project Context

You've created a project with a description and maybe some files. Now let's see the magic: conversations that know what you're working on.

Starting a Project Chat

Two ways to chat inside a project:

From the project page:

  1. Open your project
  2. Use the chat input at the bottom
  3. Your message automatically belongs to this project

From any chat:

  1. Click the + button next to the message input
  2. Select Project from the menu
  3. Choose your project
  4. A pill appears showing the project name
  5. Send your message — it's now a project chat

Either way, the AI now has your project context.

What the AI Knows

When you chat inside a project, the AI automatically receives:

  • Your Global Context — who you are, how you work
  • Your Project Description — what you're working on, goals, constraints
  • Project File Names — what reference materials are available
  • Project Memories — facts learned from previous conversations (we'll cover this next)

You don't have to explain the project. The AI already knows.

Try It: The Context Test

Start a chat in your project and ask:

"What am I working on?"

The AI will tell you — because it read your project description. No setup. No copy/paste. It just knows.

Now try:

"What files do I have available?"

The AI sees the names of attached files and can tell you what's there.

Asking About Your Files

When you need the AI to actually read a file (not just know it exists):

  1. Click the + button in chat
  2. Select File Library
  3. Choose the file
  4. It attaches to your message
  5. Now ask your question

The AI reads the file contents and incorporates them into its response. At the end of the response, you'll see a Sources section listing which files were used.

Questions for Your Role

Here's how project context changes the conversation:

Small Business Owner

Project: Summer Hiring Push

Instead of explaining your hiring needs every time, just ask:

  • "Draft a job posting for our open positions"
  • "What interview questions should I use for this role?"
  • "Help me write a rejection email that leaves the door open"

The AI knows you're hiring crew members, the pay range, and the timeline.

Recruiter

Project: Acme Corp - Senior Engineers

Jump straight to:

  • "Write an outreach message for a candidate from Meta"
  • "What questions should I ask to assess distributed systems experience?"
  • "Summarize why this role is compelling for a senior engineer"

The AI knows the company, role requirements, and compensation.

Independent Consultant

Project: Operations Audit

Get to work immediately:

  • "What should I look for in a production floor walkthrough?"
  • "Draft the outline for my current state assessment"
  • "How should I present findings to a non-technical VP?"

The AI knows your scope, deliverables, and stakeholder.

Agency Owner

Project: CloudSync Website Redesign

Ask without preamble:

  • "What messaging should the hero section emphasize?"
  • "Write copy for the pricing page that fits our brand voice"
  • "Compare three approaches for the features page layout"

The AI knows the brand guidelines, target audience, and project scope.

Multi-Passionate Individual

Project: Productivity Podcast

Dive in:

  • "Generate 5 episode ideas for solo episodes"
  • "What's a good hook for a cold outreach to potential guests?"
  • "How can I repurpose this week's episode into short-form content?"

The AI knows your format, audience size, and growth goals.

The Breadcrumb

Notice the folder icon in your chat header? It shows you're in a project and links back to the project page. Click it anytime to see your project overview, files, and other conversations.

Project Chats vs. Regular Chats

Project chats are for focused work. Regular chats are for quick questions that don't need project context.

Moving Chats Between Projects

Started a conversation and realize it belongs in a project?

  1. Right-click the chat in the sidebar
  2. Select Move to Project
  3. Choose the destination

The chat now lives in that project and future messages receive project context.

Quick Practice

  1. Open your project
  2. Start a new chat from the project page
  3. Ask "What am I working on?" — see the AI knows
  4. Ask a real question about your work — notice you didn't have to explain anything

Next Step

The more you chat in a project, the smarter it gets. Next, we'll explore Memories — how the AI learns from your conversations and remembers important facts.
