Personalization

PromptBlocks makes AI conversations smarter by automatically providing context about you, your projects, and your work. Here's how the AI "knows" about you.

How Context Gets Added

When you chat in PromptBlocks, the AI receives more than just your message. Depending on your setup, it may also receive:

Context TypeSourceAutomatic?
Project descriptionYour written descriptionYes (project chats)
Project memoriesFacts learned from conversationsYes (project chats)
Relevant file excerptsAttached project filesYes (project chats)
Past conversation snippetsYour chat historyYes (based on scope)
Conversation themesSummaries of past chatsYes (based on scope)
Assistant personalitySelected assistantYes (if set)
Communication styleSelected styleYes (if set)

Project Description

Your project description is included in every chat within that project. This is your most direct way to give the AI context.

What to include:

  • Background and goals
  • Target audience or users
  • Key concepts and terminology
  • Constraints or requirements
  • Anything you'd tell a new team member

The AI sees this context and can answer questions like "What's our deadline?" or "Who are we building this for?" without you explaining each time.

Project Memories

Memories are facts the AI learns from your conversations and remembers across chats within a project.

How Memories Are Created

  1. Ask the AI to remember: Say "remember that..." or "note that..." and the AI saves it
  2. Automatic suggestions: Every 5 messages, the system suggests facts to remember
  3. Manual entry: Add memories directly in the Memory panel

Managing Memories

Open the Memory panel (brain icon in chat header):

  • Suggested memories appear at the top in a collapsible section
  • Active memories are shown below and included in AI context
  • Approve suggestions to make them active
  • Dismiss suggestions you don't want
  • Edit or delete any memory

What Gets Remembered

The system focuses on facts from your messages:

  • Preferences and requirements
  • Key decisions and directions
  • Names, dates, and specifics
  • Project details and constraints

Limit: 50 active memories per project. Review periodically and remove outdated ones.

File Knowledge

When you attach files to a project, their contents become searchable. The AI automatically finds and uses relevant excerpts when answering your questions.

How It Works

  1. Attach files to your project (drag & drop or from File Library)
  2. Files are indexed automatically when added
  3. You ask a question in a project chat
  4. Relevant excerpts are found and provided to the AI
  5. The AI uses this context to give more informed answers

Supported File Types

  • Text files (.txt, .md, .csv, .json)
  • PDF documents
  • Word documents (.docx)

Files over 50MB are not indexed.

PromptBlocks can search your past conversations to find relevant context for your current question. The system searches in two ways:

  1. Message search: Finds specific conversation snippets related to your question
  2. Theme search: Finds summaries of past conversations covering related topics

This dual approach means the AI can find both specific details ("What did we decide about pricing?") and broader themes ("What patterns keep coming up in my client work?").

Chat Context Scope

Control which conversations are searched via the "Include context from previous chats" dropdown in Quick Actions:

OptionWhat it searchesWho can use it
NoneNo chat history searchEveryone
This projectOnly chats in the current projectEveryone (default in project chats)
All recent chatsChats across all your projectsPro users only

Free users can see the "All recent chats" option (marked with · Pro) but cannot select it.

When using "All recent chats", results show which project each conversation came from so you can see the source of cross-project context.

Your selection is saved and remembered across sessions. If you switch to a chat without a project, "This project" automatically falls back to "None".

A green search pill appears in the chat input when "All recent chats" is active. Click it to open Quick Actions and change the setting.

Settings

Configure in Settings → App → Knowledge Base:

  • Enable/disable chat history search (master toggle — hides the dropdown when off)
  • Time range: How far back to search
    • Free users: 7 days (fixed)
    • Pro users: Up to 30 days (configurable)

Assistants

Assistants are AI personalities defined by system prompts. They shape how the AI communicates and what expertise it brings.

Built-in Assistants

  • General Assistant: Balanced, helpful responses
  • Writing Partner: Helps with drafting and editing
  • Research Analyst: Synthesizes information with structure
  • Creative Strategist: Brainstorming and ideation
  • Critical Reviewer: Stress-tests ideas and provides honest feedback

Custom Assistants

Create your own in Settings → Assistants. Write a system prompt describing the personality, and select it in any chat.

Communication Styles

Styles adjust the AI's tone without changing its expertise.

Built-in Styles

  • Neutral: No modifications—AI responds naturally
  • Professional: Clear, polished, business-appropriate
  • Emoji-Enhanced: Emojis for visual clarity

You can combine any assistant with any style.

How Context Layers Together

All these context sources combine to create a complete picture:

Your Message
  + Assistant personality (if set)
  + Communication style (if set)
  + Project description
  + Project memories
  + Relevant file excerpts
  + Relevant past conversations
        ↓
    AI Response

The AI sees all of this as unified context, allowing responses that are:

  • Consistent with your preferences and past decisions
  • Informed by your documents and research
  • Aware of your project's goals and constraints
  • Styled to match your preferred communication

Best Practices

  1. Write detailed project descriptions — Your most reliable context source
  2. Review suggested memories — Accept useful ones, dismiss noise
  3. Use descriptive filenames — Help the AI understand what files contain
  4. Attach relevant files — The more context, the better the answers
  5. Create custom assistants — For specialized tasks you do repeatedly
  6. Enable chat history search — If you want continuity across conversations
